Still a great iron after three years!
2009-05-03, T. Marvin,
I bought this iron about three years ago to use for travel and to use as a convenience iron (for ironing just a few items). I really didn't expect it to be good for prolonged or heavy use as I assumed it would take too long for the iron to re-heat. To my pleasant surprise, I was wrong. This iron can be used for long periods on full steam, and is the only iron I use now. The iron stays hot long enough to work on large areas and, when it comes time to adjust the item you are working on, place the iron onto it's cradle and in a few seconds it has fully re-heated and is ready to use again, no waiting. The non-stick sole plate is nice for delicate fabric, but the iron will remove wrinkles from even the heaviest denim.
The water tank, located on the front, can be quickly removed so that you can get into shirt sleeves, pant legs and other tight spots. Removing the water tank also allows for easy refilling. I always use purified water to avoid problems with mineral build-up and potential leaks. The auto shut-off is nice and you wont have to worry that you left the iron on. The retractable cord is convenient and is located in the base of the cradle. When you are finished, and the iron has cooled some, simply unplug and retract the cord into the base, lower the hard case cover, by the handle, over the iron until it locks onto the base. You can immediately pick it up and store it away. The case is quite durable and has never failed me by accidentally unlatching. This iron is well made and quite durable.

Great performance so far!
2009-01-13, J. Hamilton, Athens, AL USA
We bought it for Christmas 2008 and it's been the best iron we've had so far. The iron has kept its heat while ironing, but we make sure the iron is on the pad when adjusting the clothes. A review in about six months would be more meaningful.
Finally, ironing is fun again... or bearable, at least!

Best Iron I've Ever Had!
2008-09-21, Lou Hoffman, Lincoln University, PA United States
I've never had a cordless iron, but now will never use anything else. This iron has made ironing so easy! I sew a lot, and it's such a pleasure to be able to take the iron to my table where I can iron directly on any fabric that just needs a touch-up after spreading it out. It stays hot and is excellent at getting wrinkles out. I only wish I'd bought it sooner!
Great Product; Poor Shipping Practices
2008-08-18, T. Ford, Indianapolis, IN
Ordered this product for my grandmother as I had already purchased one a few years ago locally. The product delivered was not as pictured. I expected the purple tank but rec'd green. Wouldn't have been so bad but the first shipment the base was damaged and so was the second shipment. Finally, not due to an improvement in their shipping practice, only by mere chance the third iron was not damaged.

Not Bad
2009-05-18, L. Castellanos, Cicero, IL
Needed a steamer to clean my ties and it's great for that. Also, have used it for clothes (similar to ironing), refreshing sofa cloth (did a decent job)and even on my curtains. It will give you a good amount of steam for like 10 to 15 mins straight then it makes a little less for a while and then picks up again. For a non professional steamer I would recommend it.
Quick Note: the first day i put it together one of the tightening plastics broke, but with a little glue it doesn't affect it at all.
WOW

10 stars for this steamer...I would say this is as good as the cleaners in removing wrinkles..

I put it together quickly and with no problems. I heated up in about 30 seconds.

I puts out a nice, even flow of very hot steam.

The wide steam head it a plus.

I just road tested this steamer on a pair of wool dress pants, a cotton shirt and a linen blend skirt.

I attempted to put the crease back into the wool pants using this steamer instead of my iron or steam press (also a SteamFast) because of the shine they leave on dry cleaned wool and found this is going to take practice. The steamer removed the wrinkles beautifully but they were not that many to begin with. I started with the pants hanging up on the attached garment hanger but put the pants on the ironing board and was able to get a crease, but not as perfect as I can with the iron. But again, with practice I think I will be able to with this steamer.

My cotton shirt was very badly wrinkled. The steamer again performed beautifully. While it did not impart a crisp starched looking pressing like an iron will, it did remove all but the very worst wrinkles at the hem. To finish, I again put the shirt on the ironing board and removed them. I also was able to get the collar nice and pressed looking, too.

The moment of truth was the linen blend skirt. You know how linen gets. This was skirt was air dried from the wash and was a skirt shar pei. Add to that, this is a tailored skirt with a buttoned vent. A serious pain in the behind to press. This is where the steamer would have gotten five stars from me - it got this skirt work ready and much, much faster and easier than had I used the iron. I was seriously impressed.

I did not have any problems with water drips except the 2 or 3 I got when I laid the pants flat on the ironing board. None with them hanging on the stand on the unit. And none after that.

The loss of a star is for the hose. It gets very hot and nowhere do they mention that in the instructions (but I did see that in a review here). I had to maneuver around it for fear of burning myself and that was distracting/cut my efficiency.

I tried using the heat pad that comes with the unit but found it too awkward so I just used my hands. Barely burn myself a couple of times, and not at all after a few passes (once I got the feel of the weight of the steam head and direction of the steam).

With the caveat of not having tested this on silk, I do recommend this steamer. It passed it's first test with me with flying colors.
Love this steamer --- my iron is crying
2009-05-04, smile, Andover, MA
The steamer works great. I have used this unit many times since it arrived. I used to accumulate too many garments to iron. Now, with this unit, the job becomes so easy --- just hang the garment on the hanger and steam. So effortless. The steam is very strong and hot. I need to watch my hand not to get burned --- just try to say how powerful this steamer is. Love it. I have not used my iron every since the steamer arrived.
Doesn't Drip
2009-05-03, D. E. Hegedus,
I am sick and tired of steamers that drip more than they steam. I decided to try once more, and this steamer made my day. It worked very well. It was definitely worth the money.

Wifes Choice
2008-11-25, Jack E. Swanson,
My wife, an accomplished seamstress, says this is the best all around iron she has ever used. (This replaced a well used, four year old, Rowenta.)
very DISAPPOINTING!!!
2008-10-26, alison frei, madison, wi
I BOUGHT THIS IRON 2 YEARS AGO. I LIKE GERMAN ENGINEERING AND ROWENTA HAS A GOOD REPUTATION. IT WAS A LITTLE PRICEY FOR ME, BUT HEY--I IRON EVERY DAY! AT FIRST IT STARTED OUT GREAT--NO DRIPS, GOOD STEAM, EASY GLIDING. THEN, IT BEGAN TO LEAK AND THE SPRAY FEATURE DIDN'T WORK [THE STEAM STILL WORKED] AND THEN ONE DAY, IT JUST DIDN'T TURN ON! I TOOK IT APART AND THE CONNECTIONS WERE ALL SOLID, SO WHO KNOWS WHY IT WENT ON THE FRITZ. I DO USE DISTILLED WATER AND I EMPTY THE RESERVOIR AFTER EACH USE. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO "OLD RELIABLE" IRONS?????????? ANOTHER ANNOYING FEATURE OF THIS IRON IS THAT IT SHUTS OFF WAAAY TOO SOON, SO YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO WARM UP AGAIN. ROWENTA IS OVERRATED!
Great iron until it started leaking
2008-06-29, Big Bubba, Atlanta, GA
This was a great iron for a short period of time until it started leaking from multiple areas. I have owned the Rowenta DZ1700 for less than two years and it now leaks on the handle, near the power cord, and from just about every seam on the iron. I iron 6 days a week so it is important that I have an iron that works properly. This iron produces a generous amount of steam and I had considered it to be the best that I have owned until a couple months ago when it started leaking. I should have purchased a new one already but I have been debating about whether or not to spend any more money on Rowenta products. The constant thought of death by electrocution via leaking iron has plagued me long enough so time to retire this one...
Rowenta wins hands down!
2007-08-26, Teresa Fralin, Roanoke, VA
I love this iron! It is the best iron I have ever owned and makes ironing so much easier. The steam feature works great. No leaking.
The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't stay on long enough. I cut the iron on and then go and do other things for 10 minutes or so and when I come back it has turned off. However, I just tilt it flat to get it back on and it takes less than a minute to get it preheated back to where it should be. It takes out all wrinkles very easily and doesn't overheat. I highly recommend this iron!
Very Satisfied
2006-12-03, Insectophile,
Does not spit or leak; VERY powerful steam action; can steam hanging clothes with the iron held vertically; glides smoothly; and is solid and well engineered.

Excellent little steamer!

This steamer works better than the previous model. I has more power and steam but just have to have patience because it is small and meant only for travel, but it does work. Good for travel.
When the cord moves, then the iron is shut off
2009-03-05, Jennifer, Tallahassee, fl United States
I have purchased this expensive iron twice, and I have had the same problems:
1) when I am ironing it automatically shuts off if the electrical cord moves to the right or left.
2) ironing wrinkles . . . just ok at highest setting
I will return this iron and NOT purchase it again . . . ever
So far it is ok.

So far the item has worked o.k. It drips a little and I have to refill it more than once to finish one article of clothing.
It produced enough steam and works with some materials
2009-01-27, Laurence A. Bates, MI USA
This item definately produced enough steam to be able to effectively steam small items of clothing. Whether it removes the wrinkles probably depends on the type of material the clothing is made of. I believe that it is generally accepted that some materials relax in the presence of steam and lose at least some of their wrinkles. For those materials this is a useful addition to the home. I have use it with success for a silk tie and a cashmere sweater. It did not work with some other items however.

I think that some reviewers who said that it did not produce steam may not have realized that you need to make sure that the water container is fully seated in the steamer. When it isn't the unit makes the pumping noise but no steam is produced. I had that problem on the second try but seating the water container more firmly solved the problem.

Amazing!

I sew quite a bit and ironing large pieces of fabric can be VERY tedious, so after owning several Rowenta irons (their top of the line) I decided to give this one a try and all I can say is wow!It generates an incredible amount of steam and cuts ironing time way down as well as doing a much better job of removing wrinkles from the fabric. Even if you don't sew it is worth the investment if you would prefer to remove wrinkles from your clothing in one pass as opposed to going over the fabric several times and still getting inferior results.
Great Iron

I told my husband about an iron I was told about that, would cut ironing time almost in half and wanted one. He did some research and purchased this one for me and I can say I am totally satisfied.

I iron everything (my mother taught me this!) and can say it has made ironing so much easier and faster - I would recommend this iron to anyone.
