Iron is good but design is poor.
2009-03-16, K. Shepherd, Dublin, OH USA
I have used Sunbeam irons in the past and have had good use from them. The Shot of Steam is the feature that must be in any iron I use and that is why I purchased this model. The retractable cord was not a consideration and now that I have it, I don't like it. It does not retract fully.
<br />
<br />In most irons the sole plate covers almost all of the bottom surface. In this iron it does not because of the retractable cord housing. When I iron I apply pressure with the heel of my hand and it usually is over the center of the soleplate. In this iron it is at the very bottom of the soleplate or not over the soleplate at all. This is a very awkward design and not very efficient.
<br />
<br />I would not buy this iron again or recommend it to anyone.
Good iron for the price
2007-10-16, R. Taylor,
This is a great iron for the price. It does a great job getting the wrinkles out and I use it all the time. The only complaint that I have is that the retractable cord doesn't work well. I have to mash the button several times and sometimes force the cord in part way to make it work. I am a little irritated about that because it was a feature that I was excited about. But the overall job of the iron outweighs that one defect in my opinion. If you have $80 in your budget for an iron, I would get a Rowenta, but if you can only spend $30 (or $24 with a Bed Bath & Beyond 20% off coupon) this is the iron to get.
My new iron

Works great love the auto shut-off function, the steam works wonders and the retractable cord is sweet. Good iron for its price.
Good for 1 year
2007-02-25, N.L.J.,
I bought this iron just about a year ago, probably a little under a year, used it every day, and it was great until last week. The vertical steam function was nice, as was the adjustable steam level. A while ago the cord reel function stopped working well; the reel would only retract about half the cord and just stop. This was inconvenient, especially since one of the selling points is a retractable cord, but not enough to make me go looking for a new iron. Last week out of nowhere the steam function stopped working altogether (vertical, horizontal, various heat/steam settings, etc), so I'm had to use a 4-year old B&D which, while not as nice, worked. This was a nice iron, but even though it was relatively cheap it should have lasted more than a year.

All that steam creates a problem
2009-05-17, jva1050, Lambertville, NJ
This iron is terrific. Feels heavy and sure in the hand and supplies plenty of steam. Just one problem. After a few uses, I noticed water on the floor underneath the Rowenta ironing board I was using while ironing. First I thought the iron was leaking water onto the floor. Finally, I found out all that wonderful steam was accumulating in the cover of the ironing board and dripping onto the floor. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any way - or other type of Rowenta ironing board cover - to prevent this annoyance?

The Rowenta DZ5080 Focus Stainless-Steel 1700-Watt Iron is fantastic! I only have to press once-over clothes and it presses the wrinkles out...unlike the previous iron I had where I had to iron back and forth several times. Plenty of steam...just wish I did not have to re-fill water so often.
Love this iron!
2009-05-15, Gwen Walters,
I ordered this Rowenta iron to replace my old (probably 10-15 year-old) Rowenta iron. They have improved with time! It puts out steam wonderfully and is so easy to fill. I also love the pointed end to get the little areas. The weight alone helps in ironing.
Disappointed
2009-05-15, T. Goddeeris, Detroit, MI USA
I was really looking forward to my new iron. Unfortunately, the indicator lights did not work (yellow for heating up, green for right temp, red for too hot for setting). When I tried using it anyway, it was nice and hot, with lots of steam, but it also leaked all over the place. Oh well.....back to my search.
It's hard to comprehend why this iron is SO flawed
2009-05-07, R. Giardina, Bar Area, CA
I've been using this iron for almost a year and every time it ruins my day. I had Rowenta irons before and thought Rowenta knows all there is to know about irons. Well, with this one they must have outsourced the design team to a country unfamiliar with ironing. How else can one explain the ridiculous, unnecessary design flaws plaguing this model. From the trivial problems like the temperature control wheel under the handle being so light to touch that I reset temperature every time I grab the handle, and by contrast the water filling trap door is so tight it hurts to open it, to the main problem which is the steam. Steam is supposed to be good but this is a perfect example of too much of a good thing. The iron's description boasts a "generous" container for water, well they need it because with its 300000 holes it produces a generous amount of steam. And though the steam control looks like the one on other models, unlike on my previous model it doesn't stay in intermediate positions, it's all or nothing. Since, ironing without steam has pretty much no effect, you have to accept enveloping yourself in clouds of scalding steam. So unless you are into historically accurate impersonations of 19 century laundresses in the South, you might want to put off your ironing till October. With this prodigious amount of steam the iron runs out of water every few shirts. I had to train myself to flip the steam control every time I lift up the iron in order to minimize the uncomfortable heat and to make the water last a little longer.
<br />
<br />Worst of all it ruined a lot of my clothes in a devious way. My ironing board has a metal bar on the wide side which I find handy to hang ironed clothes awaiting a trip to the closet. With the new iron I started getting rusty stains on the shoulders of hung clothes. Not only I had to rewash them, but most of the stains didn't come off. It appeared that the insane amount of steam corroded my ironing board, condensed on the underside and leaked onto the hanging clothes.
<br />I never had any of these problems with my previous irons which incidentally also cost less.

Olio TG-1000 Steam Iron
2009-01-12, Debbie W. Lanier,
I owned another Oliso product and loved it. I haven't used this one as much yet, put know that I prefer this product to the Rowenta irons.
Not worth the money
2009-01-09, Bob,
I bought this iron at the now defunct Sharper Image in the summer of 08 when they were going out of business.
<br />I needed an iron and it seemed like a good deal at the time with all of the features and the reduction in price.
<br />It worked "ok", but as some people mentioned. It doesn't seem to generate enough steam while ironing and there is definitely a lag when pushing the steam button. I did like the auto lift function, but not enough to ever buy another.
<br />My iron stopped working recently, so I got about 6 months use of a $60 (sale price) iron, which I am definitely not happy about.
<br />I sent an email to customer service and talked to a lady and she told me that I could send it back with the proper receipt.
<br />Well, I tossed it away and told her that I thought I didnt need it. She was kind enough to let it slide and told me to print a copy of the email and send the iron back.
<br />2 stars for the customer service rep and 0 for the iron. I ended up buying a $30 black and decker and that thing puts out double the amount of steam in no time. I just gotta learn to put it upright after being used to this auto lift system.

I am a quilter and this iron is truly a gift from the quilting god! I can't think of a single thing I don't like about it.
Best new gadget
2008-12-21, Flannel Quilter, Portage, IN USA
The auto lift takes some getting use to but it is great. I have knocked over my old iron on carpet often enough to enjoy this new safety feature. The steam setting is very good for both flannel and cotton quilting fabric. I have purchased one for myself and my best quilting buddy. Go with the stainless steel sole plate over the non-stick. The stainless glides much better than the non-stick.
Oliso Iron
2008-10-18, M. Susan Rogers,
I really like the feet and not having to stand the iron up after each pressing. It also glides very smoothly while ironing. The only thing I have been disappointed in is the "extreme steam" feature. When I use the steam surge button, it doesn't always release steam. I also don't like having to turn it off and unpluggng it to add water!

Not bad for an inexpensive iron
2009-03-01, George Rapp, Pataskala, OH USA
Does everything I'd expect (steams, retracts cord, turns on quickly) and the price is reasonable. The iron this one replaced was heavier, so it's a bit of an adjustment to a lighter iron with less heft, but for what I paid, I can learn to live with it.

Use only for travel
2008-01-22, M. Hoang, Seattle, WA
I used this iron daily for almost a year before the temperature dial got stuck. It takes a lot of effort to iron clothes because it has a small ironing surface, it doesn't hold a lot of water, and the steam button requires an usual amount of effort to push. It also spits water like no else. I can only see this as being useful for travelers.

The iron was a Christmas gift for my 23 year old grandson who likes to look nice for his job and otherwise. He was pleased with the gift.
for shame

Bloody worthless.
2006-03-07, The Rob Identity,
Good lord. I wish I had read the reviews for this before buying it locally. Now my shirt is WET and wrinkled. Hooray! Does not steam. Does not... do... anything worthwhile. I am taking it straight back to the store. Does not perform how I expected it to.
Nice but a bit complicated
2006-03-04, Dena J. Fields, Clevleand, OH
Works excellently! But, a bit ocmplicated to figure out! Well worth the money but use it on a day you have time to play around with it first! I tried to rush and get ready and it was not a turn on and go thing.....you need to give yourself time to see how it works. Once one and figured out great!
