Good Housekeeping Recommendation!

Excellent product. Highly rated by Good Housekeeping and I would agree, it lives up to the review. Good value and good performance.
Best little iron in the world
2009-04-16, P. Schwarzin, Arizona
It is the best iron I have ever owned. It is lightweight and does a wonderful job. I almost enjoy ironing again
Dissappointed
2008-11-17, M. Ramsey, Kuna, ID
I do a significant amount of ironing (6-7 hours per week total) and this iron has basically worn out in 6 months time. It developed a crack in the side of the water tank that doesn't leak yet (but does worry me as to when it will start leaking from that spot). It has what seems to be a rather significant yet intermittent leak between the base plate and the water tank . The 'silver' on the underside of the handle has completely worn off also. When I iron, I have to fill the water tank approximately every 30 minutes to make up for the leakage; when I purchased the iron a full water talk would last me 2-3 times that long.

For someone who irons infrequently this may be a good iron, but for someone like me who uses it quite a bit I wish I had spent a bit more for a higher-quality iron.
Best Iron I have ever had
2008-10-10, J. J. Sulecki, Delaware
This is hands down the best Iron, I have ever had. For the pirce, it should be more. Iron , simply is about the steam, and this thing is like a professional Iron, the amount of steam that comes out will quickly reduce your ironing time by 75%. I iron my button down work short in less than 2 minutes. No more cleaners for me.
Perfect Lightweight for arthritic hands, or not!
2008-06-12, T. Aubuchon, Seattle, WA
I love this iron! It has ton's of steam, with the plus side of strong, verticle (and horizontal) blasts of steam for just steaming items, over a foot away! Nice "large" filling cup for adding water, and it can use "tap" water, (an amazing perk for a long-time "distilled" water user like me for years!)

I really needed a "lightweight" iron with arthritis in my right hand and this one is perfect. I can iron for long stretches without pain or discomfort. I bought a large wonderful (Rowenta) iron, which was beautiful, but I couldn't use it due to the weight. It's amazing what a great job this "lightweight" can do up against it's "heavier" bigger, rivals!

It gets out wrinkles better than any other iron I have owned in over 40 years of ironing too. The digital readout of levels and readiness are a colorful light show treat too! The automatic shut off feature is a must too (with annoying "Senior" moment forgetfulness episodes!)

Hot Stuff
2009-03-31, Hansville Beach Lady,
What an amazing little iron. This iron has all the features of a full size Iron. I love it for my crafting projects, but also find it useful for small ironing jobs when I don't want to drag out my big iron. It's great to be able to get steam from such a small and lightweight iron. With a dual voltage selector, I look forward to using it for travel.
Great all around Iron

This is a great travel iron as well as a home touch up iron. My wife uses it all the time for her quilting and sewing needs... the cord is seems extra long but I'm not complaining.

When it works, it's wonderful
2008-05-29, Stephen B. Waters, Rome, NY USA
We've owned several. Beautiful weight and functionality.

However, the last one leaked uncontrollably from a manufacturing flaw. When I dissected the iron to discover why, I found the wire clamp on the red rubber hose to one of the steam/spray buttons had been put on in such a way that the red rubber had been torn apart during the manufacturing process. If Sunbeam fixes this, they'll have a winner. But there seems no easy way to get through to the company.

I'm buying one more, hoping for solid manufacturing, because otherwise we love it.
OK IRON
2008-02-14, Himi Jendrix, Connecticut, USA
Wanting to avoid spending $60-80 on an iron, this lower priced model ($32) looked promising. It had a plain design with no gimmicky setting controls, a good weight, and solid feel. I was also taken in by the "Steam Master" name, and the advertised claims made regarding its vertical steaming capability and "Shot of Steam" feature. I didn't really associate the Sunbeam name with quality, but if the suggestions held up regarding the steam, it looked to be a good buy compared with the other junky irons available in this price range.

To test the iron's capabilities, I first used it on a pair of khaki pants that were worn once and had a moderate level of wrinkles. With a Black & Decker iron I used to use, the steam action made fairly simple work of it and the pants could be made to look unworn with relatively little effort. That was not the case using this Sunbeam model. The steam action is poor, and the "Shot of Steam" is just a small wisp or puff. Bottom line, the steam and "shot of steam" didn't do much to penetrate the fabric. On top of poor steam level, the iron does not really get very hot - I hadn't paid attention to the Wattage when I purchased it, but it turns out that it is only 1200 watts (the low end of iron wattages), so the modest temperature is not surprising. But this means you need to go over the same area many times to press out the wrinkles. Heavier wrinkles were not eliminated with this iron. Overall, I was dissatisfied and returned the iron for a Rowenta Power Duo (which I also returned), and then, finally, for a Rowenta Focus (which I kept).

I was willing to pay more money for an iron that would do a better, faster job. However, for those on a tighter budget, or who don't mind having to make lots of passes when ironing, this is probably an OK iron to have. The settings dial seems fairly sturdy, so the iron might be expected to last. I'd bet that you won't find anything much better if you choose to stay in this price range.

WONDERFUL

In over 50 years this is without a doubt the very best iron that I have found. For the $$ you can't beat it.....I bought one for $60.00 and it leaks and I do not like it at all.
Leaks All Over
2006-07-02, NoSleep2Nite4Me, Elkins Park, PA USA
As with the other reviewer, this iron leaked uncontrollably. It leaked whether horizontal or vertical. It leaks from the bottom and even where you retract the cord. This is the worse iron we have ever bought. We are trying to return ours.
A $27 lesson
2006-05-27, Heather,
This worked great for the first three months I had it. I loved that I could actually see the water level in the chamber (my previous iron didn't have this feature), I loved the burst of steam feature, which was especially handy for my kids' corduroy pants. In fact, I was just happy to have a steam feature that worked at all. I was almost enjoying ironing for a while there.

Skip to three months and two weeks. The iron now leaks more than it steams, my ironing board is soaking wet by the time I've done one shirt and the reservoir needs to be refilled after I've ironed two. It's not leaking from the visible reservoir areas or soleplate, either -- it's pouring out of the housing whenever the iron is horizontal. I've contacted Amazon who refuses to deal with it since it's been longer than 30 days, and I can't get a single person at Sunbeam to return my calls or my emails. Thankfully it "only" took $27 to realize I'll be steering clear of Sunbeam products in the future.

Rowenta Iron
2009-05-08, Nell, Virginia
I have never had a Rowenta iron before so I didn't know what I was missing out on. This is the best iron I've ever had. Despite it's size, it isn't heavy. It is spendy but I doubt I will ever need another iron.

This iron is excellent on all counts. It's easy to use, although a bit heavy. I love the generous steam it provides plus the pointy nose which gets into every seam and corner.

awful product
2009-03-31, Cora, US
This is the worst steam iron I ever had in my life! When you need steam you'll have only a blinking Auto/Off button, is leaking, does not clean itself as it claims... overall I hate it! Now I'm planing to buy a PANASONIC one and throw this Rowenta to the garbage.
Works good but not reliable
2009-02-24, Kindle Fan, St Louis, MO USA
The iron works well and has nice features, especially the retracting cord and the no drip water feature. Unfortunatley the overall quality is lacking. We have had this a little over a year and it has quit functioning. It appears that the safety auto off function is broken and shuts the iron off before it even heats up. It is now useless. This is the first Rowenta iron we have had and it will be the last. The irons are pricey and not any better than the Black and Decker, Sunbeams, etc. especially if you look at the high price of the Rowenta's.
great - until it stops working
2009-02-09, Amazon customer, Wash DC
We're on our 3rd Rowenta Effective DX1900. When these models work, they're great. But after paying a decent amount of money for it, I expected it to last. Now on our 3rd replacement, we're getting rid of it. The safety auto-off switch is defective, and it keeps turning off every 10-15 seconds. I used to be able to shake it violently to make the auto-switch turn back on, but now I have to unplug and plug it in every time. I tried calling customer service, but they were totally unhelpful and wouldn't own up that they are selling a defective product. As I told the rep, I'll never buy a Rowenta product again.
DO NOT BUY ROWENTA
2008-12-23, Megan K S, Oklahoma City, OK
I purchased a Rowenta because of its reputation. At first, the iron was a dream come true and now it won't heat up, shuts off by itself, then I have to plug it in and unplug it several times during an ironing session to keep it warm. After research it on the internet, apparently this is common with Rowenta. They just stop working! And per all the reviews I read, Rowenta won't do a thing about it, this is the last time I spend $60 on an iron! Don't do it!
cord reel system poor~ very noisy
2008-12-07, Velvet Dawn, Ca. United States
Irons okay~ needs good pressure to get wrinkles out. Cord reel system is noisy and squeeky. Cord reel feature does not always reel in cord with out help!! Whats up with Irons lately??? Having a very hard time finding a good quality Iron.
