Simply the best!

2009-05-17, Jose Morales Jimenez, Santiago, Region Metropolitana Chile

The best iron on the market by far. Incredibly comfortable to use and very very powerful. A must in every household!!

I really want to like this iron,..

2009-04-07, J. Mondesir, Brooklyn, NY USA

Having purchased two of this exact same iron, I speak from much experience. Mine both worked great when I first got them, lots of steam, super cool design, and the best part of it is the attachable plate,..it clicks onto the ironing plate and it's made of a different material which gets hot and irons out creases, but doesnt burn fabrics or leave any shiny marks on dark fabrics. Attaching the plate also seems to generate more steam. It's great, you can iron anything on even the hottest setting, delicate fabrics, black clothes, plastics, whatever.

Then the problems begin. I've encountered all sorts of electrical and mechanical problems, on the first one, it wouldnt auto shut off, and the spring loaded button on the top (which turns off and on the steam) broke. I could'nt get it out to turn off steam or clean the anti calcium rod that it's attached to.

Getting this thing serviced is a headache, you can't simply send it back to Braun, you need to take it to a service store in your area. My closest one was a mom and pop electronics store 20 miles from me - and I live in NYC! Having enjoyed the iron when it worked, I bought a brand new one when it was on sale (about $35). Again, good times when it worked, but the problems soon began. This new one won't turn on! There seems to be a short in the cord or where it attaches to the iron because it turns on when it wants to, the plate wont get hot, it's now collecting dust.

I really like the design of this iron, and the attachable plate is genius. I must admit, I like it so much I would buy it again, but I wouldnt pay more than $30 for it. Look around on ebay or for a sale at Bed Bath and Beyond where they also have coupons. I'd never pay Amazon's ~$80 for this thing because I know it will be short lived.

Too many problems

2008-07-24, Mary, Florida

I bought the FreeStylePro a 1 1/2 years ago. It just stopped working. During that time I was not happy with the water leaking out of the plate & the fact that I had to unplug it when not in use - I would not trust the auto shut off. Like others have said - all the bells & whistles are useless - just need a simple good iron. I will try to contact Braun & see if I can get a replacement.

Perpetuating the iron stereotype.

2006-07-14, J. Butchinski, PA

As irons go, this one blends right in. From the first time it's fired up it produces insufficient and irregular heat. Auto-shutoff paranoia is warranted as the unit will choose when to shut down, apparently via some random algorithm, not at the documented time. I've seen it run anywhere from 1 minute to 8 hours before turning off. Then there's the leakage -- you will get wet. Some of this may be due to the insufficient heat but I've had the unit on max and seen it empty the reservoir in short time. To summarize: not only will this iron see you off to work in wrinkled and wet clothes, it may also burn the house down while you're there.

I love this iron!

2006-03-16, Sharon A. Trainor,

I bought this iron because my old iron kept leaking water and ruining my clothes. I did a lot of research and decided on this one. I'm glad I did. I love it! I've had it 3 months now and have not had any problems. Definately a good buy!

iron, Black & Decker 2020

2009-01-20, TW, Texas

I've used this iron 2 years & am very happy w/ it. I am replacing it before it dies all the way. I like the high wattage for quick heating & rapid removal of wrinkles. The plate surface is large, there are many steam vents, makes the task easier. Self-clean feature works well. Just a tad on the heavy side. About average in being stable set at rest on the ironing board. I like to be able to set the amount of steam. Most irons just offer more steam w/ more heat, but at times I like lighter or heavier steam at various temperatures. I like the large water tank & that it steams well right down to the end of the tank. (Not true of all irons.) I iron about 2 hours a week, & more if I sew. Auto off is a good feature too. I like the "beep" indicating it's up to heat.

I don't like it that it's showing suspicious signs of malfunctioning after 2 years of use. Maybe I use it harder than most households, but things used to last a lot longer. Also the water cap is vulnerable, it broke off its hinge right away, & the plastic around it has cracked. Just an irritation when you try to take care of things, keep them new-looking, but they crash anyway. It's operational, but none the less, broken.

I'm very fussy abt. my iron since I do a lot of ironing. I do like this iron well enough to replace it, & I couldn't find it in local retail stores. So I was glad to find it online for a good price. Maybe if I'm super super careful w/ the water cap on the new one on order, it won't break.

When they say auto-off, they mean OFF

2008-11-11, Kevin Courcey, Sarasota, FL

This is a nice little iron to use (except for the water level problems noted in other reviews), however we ended up taking 2 of them back because the auto-off feature doesn't wake the iron back up when you want to use it again. You can shake it, move it, tilt it, fake iron with it...nothing wakes the iron up once it goes into auto-off. You have to physically unplug it then plug it back in to get it to come back on. And BOTH irons we bought did this. The company admits it is not supposed to work that way, but simply recommended I return the item to the store and get another one. No thanks. Two is enough. Better to try different iron entirely.

Decent iron for infrequent ironing

2008-11-02, Steve B, Lexington, SC USA

I bought this iron because the retailer did not have the B&D D2030. This F1050 is decent for infrequent ironing, but is very basic. If you have larger loads of clothes to iron on a regular basis, buy the D2030.

This iron is the worst! At first it was great, but after about 6 months the steam feature just about stopped working. Also, it is very hard to see how much water is in it due to the red water window.

I like the looks of this iron -- and it works really well. I've used it for several hours now and am pleased with its performance.

Great Travel Accessory

2009-04-18, J Keistler, Lake Jackson, Texas USA

I travel twice monthly on business and this Rowenta normally accompanies on car trips. I have a couple of travel irons, but what I really like about this Rowenta is the size. It is fairly long with the non-folding handle; the handle holds the water. However, this long handle is also what makes it easier than the average travel iron to hold and use. I have read other reviews that have had problems with theirs. All I can say is that with dozens of uses, mine has performed flawlessly. The slide on/off brush/steam attachment that covers the smooth soleplate certainly hasn't broken on mine. However, I seldom use the iron as a steamer as I starch instead. This may indicate a QC problem on Rowenta's part, of course. I travel by car with a large duffel and the length of this iron is no problem. For those with severe size constraints, another iron might be better.

A tour director in Europe

2009-04-09, Nicole Kreigenhofer, San Francisco, CA

I am an instructor at the International Tour Management Institute ([...]) as well as a tour director. I spend 4-5 months a year working/traveling as a tour director in Italy & France. This steamer/iron is a dream come true in countries that don't allow hotels to provide irons to their guests. It has served me well over the years. It is small, comes with a soft case and is easy to use. Don't leave home without it! The only downside is that the steamer head attachment is made of plastic and can crack easily if not packed in your suitcase correctly.

VERY poor quality

2008-07-10, Just Another New Yorker, New York City, USA

Boy do I wish I'd read the reviews here before we purchased our Rowenta steam iron! Like many others, ours never worked properly: 1. The brush attachment broke right away (should have returned it then, but we just accepted it and continued to use it), 2. It constantly leaked water over our clothes, floor, selves when in use, 3. It was always REALLY DIFFICULT to get it to steam, requiring repeated, fast presses of the button until our thumbs were sore, 4. It finally just died today--stopped working for no reason. For such a simple product as an iron to break after just a short time, you know the quality is POOR. BEWARE OF THIS PRODUCT and, by association, THIS BRAND. We will certainly never buy a Rowenta again!

Not as good as the DA-55

2008-06-08, Dave L, Scottsdale, AZ

I bought this as a replacement for my DA-55, which I wore out after about 7 years of daily use. First off, the water capacity is very small. You have to refill after every 1-2 garments. Secondly, the quality is poor compared to the DA-55. The heating element burned out after about 1 year. I would not recommend buying this model

Excellent product

2008-03-30, Living Stereo, Pensacola, FL United States

I've had a DA-75 travel iron for years. I have used it many times on trips to steam out wrinkles from suits, slacks, and shirts while on the hanger. I've also used it many times at home when I was in a rush.

It is well-constructed, comes with a brush that is great for removing lint, and has a convenient travel bag.

It heats quickly and produces adequate steam. As another reviewer stated, the reservoir is small because it is a *travel* iron. The reservior is easy to refill.

As a rebuttal to another reviewer, I find it amusing that anyone could write a bad review of this product. It has given me excellent service and has saved me from having to use questionable hotel irons.

Nice iron, but.....

2008-01-30, Quilter, Cordova, Alaska United States

I also replaced a B & D with this wonderful new iron. It does everything it promises. But one thing I would change is the length of time it takes before it times out. Three minutes is a very short time if you are doing anything like quilting or sewing where you need the iron to be hot every 5 or 10 minutes. It seems I am always punching the button to get it to 'wake up' again. My old B&D had a 10 minute timer which was a lot better for what I use it for. Ironing yards of fabric, ironing shirts, etc when you are constantly using it, you can't beat the heat control and steaming action. But if you are doing crafts, look for one that has a longer 'time-out'. If there is a way to reprogram it for longer run time, I would love to know about it.

THE best iron ever!

2007-12-18, Steph, Detroit, Michigan

Back in July, I purchased this iron as my latest, expensive Rowenta iron started leaking like a sieve (at just over 1 year old). This iron is fantastic! From the first time I used it, it has been great.

The Reliable iron has a separate chamber and heat source for the water that generates the steam. This means that steam is available at a lower heat setting than usual. Also, the steam is consistent - no spitting, leaking or dribbling. The steam can be used with the iron in a vertical position (for steam-pressing a garment). The iron has two steam settings. The higher steam setting puts forth a tremendous amount of steam - just like a steam generator iron but without having a separate water tank to deal with.

The manufacturer does recommend using distilled water (really the only downside). The iron has removable/replaceable filters to extend the life of the iron by filtering out the mineral deposits that can prematurely gunk up an iron.

All in all, this is one terrific iron. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially to anyone who does sewing/quilting. Fantastic iron!

Have Stumbled on Problems! :(

2007-11-23, E. F Santamaria, Boston, MA

UPDATE: So, we've had this iron for a couple of months now, and BAM she's broken! :( While it was working, it did great! Lots of steam, heated quickly, nice features, very comfortable to hold. But, because I couldn't find anyone else who had reviewed it, I was a bit concerned. Well, I bought one and also (thankfully!) got the extended service guarantee from Brookstone.

Well, I came home last week and my hubby says the iron is dead! Won't heat up, keeps doing all these weird beeps, and the steam thing is pumping anymore. So, sadly, we're taking it back and will hopefully get a new one that works.

The Amazon thing won't let me drop my rating from 5 stars, so please don't be confused. I'm feeling 2 stars right now... :(

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I was waffling between the Reliable Digital Velocity, a B&D recommended by ConsumerReports, and a fancy looking Rowenta. I was almost swayed to the B&D, but if you read some of the reviews, several people had problems after a few months, so I decided to go with a more-expensive brand... In the end, I tried the Digital Velocity, and I love it! We've only had it for about 2 weeks, so I can't say if it will last for years on end, but it feels very well built, sturdy, and well designed. And, so far, I'm not regretting a bit of the cost.

The thing I like the most is the steam generator! It's really cool that the amount of steam can change independently of the temperature. So, you can set low heat with lots of steam, or high heat with low steam. When you turn it on, a little machine inside pumps out the steam. It makes a little pumping noise which was interesting at first (I was just used to the hiss of steam from my old junky iron.)

It does a great job with ironing, and is very comfortable to hold. It's weighty, but not overly heavy, and it glides nicely along the garment without bunching them up. And, the iron plate is not a teflon surface (I think it's stainless?) so you don't have to worry about it flaking off after a few months of use. As for how it works, it does nicely! I ironed a decent pair of wool slacks, and they came out nice and smooth, a crisp crease, but not overly hot (thanks to separate heat and steam settings.) And, my hubby says it does a great job too. And, it will go into "sleep" mode in just about 2 or 3 minutes, but wakes right back up when you pick it up. And it beeps to tell you when it's changed modes... Pretty cool for an iron!

I'm loving the iron so far! If something goes wrong, I'll update my review. But, if not, know it's working great since late Nov, 2007. :)
